[Laszlo-user] Stuck at what ought to be an easy install step (JAVA_HOME)

I'm trying to just get 4.0.6 installed locally on an Ubuntu box and the
instructions about $JAVA_HOME are bewildering me.

I used aptitude to install java7-jdk:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/devel/icedtea-java7-jdk

not sure if that was the right first step, but I don't have anything
that looks suitable for JAVA_HOME in /usr/lib and I'm afraid I'm being a
bit dense.

Any insights on what JAVA_HOME is likely to be on an Ubuntu system?
Debian? I'm sure this won't be my last question ...
