I found a sample with PHP code, which of course is far uglier than a Perl version would be though.

Maybe most documentation has moved into legals development area..? Looks like things have been reorganized. Still, prehistoric if it is telling you to write XML with print statements..

And it looks like this is an example of REST, sort of. Actually after skimming the eXist-OpenLaszlo Word document it seems to be extremely unintuitive.. you have to use xql, an xml query language apparently, and the sample (t folder) files seem to mix javascript into xml... a big ouch!
