Okay, I'll do some diagnostics.  I never tried the old version in 
Cygwin, but I assume they worked, at least for buildlfc.  Henry, did you 
use buildlfc in cygwin before I checked in this change?

Specifically, when I try to run buildlfc I get the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:

The older versions of the script were based on specifying a classpath, 
while the new version uses java.ext.dirs.  I'll poke around a bit and 
see if I can figure out why the new version is failing...
